How are zeolites made ?

Synthetic zeolites are typically produced via the so-called ‘aluminosilicate hydrogel’ route

Synthetic zeolites are typically produced via the so-called ‘aluminosilicate hydrogel’ route by mixing a liquid silicate and a liquid aluminum source under formation of an amorphous aluminosilicate gel. This gel is then crystallized under hydro-thermal conditions into a slurry containing small zeolite crystals. After separation from the reaction mixture they may undergo post-synthesis modification steps (e.g. ion exchange or de-alumination processes) for optimizing their chemical composition and properties and are eventually dried before further processing.
